Citroen keys from 1997 and up do not have transponders, so you can easily make keys from scratch or replace one that has been lost on site. It only takes some minutes. Keys that were lost between 1998 and 2000 require a PIN code which is located under the scratch-resistant panel on the back of a security card made of plastic that is the size of credit card that is in the wallet of the owner (see picture below). It is possible to get this code without having to go to the dealer.
Security
Citroen automobiles are equipped with security measures that are high-end to ensure that the car is not stolen. These security measures are based on the use a transponder inside the car key. This chip transmits an individual code to the car each time it's activated. This code is used to disable the vehicle's standard immobiliser, which stops it from starting if you don't have the proper key.
